Introduction
THE USE OF SONGS IN THE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF ENGLISH.
According to Harmer (2001) “They [songs] are considered a helpful tool in
order to motivate students to awake their curiosity and interpretation in the
world of poetry. Music is also important because it brings information about
different cultures, customs, feelings, places & history” (Harmer, 2001, p. 242).
In fact, it makes a perfect link between the world of learning and the world of
leisure.
In short, working with songs is an enjoyable activity that enhances learning, and it is a great method for learners to get in touch with the language in a fun way as well as in a way in which cultural awareness is increased.
Apart from that, music is also effective
to teach pronunciation, to acquire and to revise vocabulary.
